And how would you mistakenly download it in the first place? What would it disguise itself as to get you to download it? Is it in an email? An attachment?

Or did you go into something that you searched, and it popped up with a message saying your computer was under attack, and you needed to run a scan. Then when you ran the scan, it was the virus??

This is probably one of those "rogue antivirus" programs that get embedded or rootkitted into various websites or e-mail attachments. It pops up unexpectedly, and does a fake "virus scan". This software DOES NOT WORK...all this does is to try to get your credit card or bank information in order for the virus to be removed, then you would end up an identity theft victim. Best way to get rid of such spyware/malware is to:
1) Go to BleepingComputer.com
2) Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and run it on a full scan.
3) Download ComboFix, and follow the instructions carefully. DO NOT cancel ComboFix while it's running, or your hard drive could be messed up. Let the program run through its course-it will take a while.
4) The rogue software should be off your computer thanks to those two programs.
DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT, fall for ANY "antivirus program" that shows up on a pop-up. They are all scams.
