Target Complaint - Involuntary collection of personal information
DUMFRIES, VIRGINIA -- Much as I have enjoyed Target over the years (particularly when I'm in a relatively isolated locale), I will no longer shop there as long as they continue to collect personal information on shoppers by scanning ID cards without the shopper's permission. Twice during the past week, my wife and I have been asked to provide a driver's license, for the purchase of cold medicine and wine, respectively. We are in our mid-50s. On both occasions, when we produced the requested ID, the clerk quickly scanned the bar code -- transferring all information from the ID into Target's database --without asking our permission to do so.
At best, this is a reckless and offensive practice; it may be something far worse.
