United States Postal Service Complaint - Be careful sending to a Military APO - they rip you off
WEST CHESTER, OHIO -- I recently mailed a package to my daughter who is in Germany with her husband who is in the military. She specificially told me to use the APO box as that specified it was military and we would be given the US rate.
I had already had my package ready - it was in my own box. I took it to the Post Office where I had to fill out a customs form. The package was weighed and I was told that less than 7 #'s would cost me $49.90. I was totally shocked. My daughter and my boyfriend told me to check in to this. My boyfried had mailed stuff to his son who was on a ship in the Middle East and never spent that kind of money for postage. After checking in to this I was told I should be issued a refund of about $36.00. The Post Office should go by the zip code and not the Country. I tried to get my money back but I was told since I did not use their "flat rate box" I as out of luck. My daughter has received all kinds of packages, different boxes, etc and she said they all have the cheaper US rate on the. If I was told I needed a special box to save $36.00 you can bet your bottom dollar I would have been ripping my box open and repacking it. What a way to rip someone off. I plan to find other shipping methods to Germany for the next 4 years. If I could do without the Post Office permanently I would.
