Arc Disposal and Recycling Complaint - How was I supposed to know there was a grace period?
MT PROSPECT, ILLINOIS -- I just received my quarterly statement from our garbage collector today. They've changed the format on it a few times in the last year, but I noticed on the statement in big bold print "Due By 10/15/09." Today is 10/9, the statement date was from 9/30. That gave me approximately 4 business days to get them their money. Since I pay online, it's not a big deal; but what if I didn't?
So, I call the customer service line and voice my concern. The CSR on the other end said "Well, there's a grace period so it's not really due until the end of the month."
Say what, now?
I looked on my statement and nowhere on the front or the back did I see any mention of a "grace period." Nor did I see anything that alluded to the possibility of a grace period such as a phrase saying that a late fee would be assessed if the payment was not received by 10/30/09. All I saw was "Due by 10/15/09." As far as I'm concerned, the due date is the due date unless otherwise stated (like on my mortgage statement). No way was I going to take the word of some random CSR. I paid the bill right away. Just goes to show you, read your bills when they come in.
