Chu Shing Restaurant Complaint - Second-class treatment, slow service, average food.

Review by Rogersays on 2009-10-12
OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA -- Slow and abrupt service. Not crowded at all, but under-staffed and did not treat patrons equally. We waited about 50 minutes before our three dishes - nothing in the least bit complicated - arrived. The galling thing was that four tables of people who arrived after us received their food well before us - with one table of six having a full meal in front of them within five minutes of arrival. The only thing which seemed to distinguish us from the other four tables of people was that we were not Chinese. We were treated in a very second-class way. This sort of obvious prejudice is disgusting!

You don't mention what you ordered exactly. If they all ordered something that was premade like a rice dish or noodles it's just got to be ladled into a bowl and served. Maybe you think what you ordered wasn't complex, but maybe it was in comparison to what everyone else had ordered.

i agree, it might have been what you ordered and not your skin

also if they are regulars there's maybe a chance they called ahead.

there's a restaurant for ribs here where you can get served first if you call ahead with your order. .... i'm betting there are people who go there who don't know about it, who end up being FURIOUS because they will undoubtably see another customer come in who gets served first... and not realize that other customer called in the order already

what the others said or maybe your server forgot to put in your order, kitchen lost your ticket, they burned your food, they dropped your food on the floor and had to remake it.. I could go on and on. Without talking to a manager you don't know what happened and are just jumping to a conclusion

It matters not what was ordered a fifty minute wait for your food is unacceptable. If there was a problem then at the very least the manager should have informed the OP of the delay along with some heart felt apologies.

Right or wrong if on my first visit to a restaurant they fail me in any way at all then they'll never see me coming through their doors again. Businesses only get one chance to make a good first impression with me.

Good review Rogersays.

I agree with you Stew that places do only get once chance to make a good first impression. That being said, there are too many variables as the other responders have said to make a claim saying the restaurant is racist.

Stew I agree with you 100% on this. With that said I would still question if it was really a 50 minute wait. I'm not saying it wasn't (as I wasn't there) but I have had people tell me that they had been waiting for there food for 45 minutes and they had only been sitting at the table for 20 minutes. All I am saying is there are other possibilities other than because they were not Asian

Stew and the OP are correct that 50 minutes is too long to wait, and restaurants only get one chance to make a good impression. Also, the op did not say they were not "asian" they said they were not "Chinese," thus they may still be Japanese or Korean.
Posted by PepperElf on 2009-10-13:
i never said they weren't asian. i just said maybe it wasn't their skin

You did not say asian, PepperElf. I was referring to RestaurantGuy. Sometimes, myself included, we forget that between asians, there are and have been some very real hostilities and prejudices.

Is it racist of me to say that I think Asian people are all very nice and I doubt they'd be racist because of the color of your skin. I mean I've never been treated anything but nice by Asian people. Not saying that any skin color is more racist them others, but I just don't see Asians as the kind who'd be taking 50 minutes to bring your food just to serve their "fellow" Asians first.
