John Deere Company Complaint - JS25 ran like a dead Deere and Customer service just as impressive - JS25 lawnmower

JS25 lawnmower - Complaint
Review by jnanderson on 2009-10-13
MOLINE,, ILLINOIS -- After 45 days of ownership and a handful of uses, our JS25 stopped running. We took it to our local John Deere dealer expecting that everything should be covered after only 45 days. Unfortunately, according to the service dealer, we had not used oil. OF COURSE we put oil in the mower, we're not stupid. While speaking with the service manager about this problem, oil leaked out of the mower while it was on it's side. OBVIOUSLY oil was used!! After sending pictures to Briggs and Stratton, our warranty claim was denied. We then went to John Deere customer service, which was not helpful. After escalating to a manager in the customer service department a case was opened. After waiting 3 weeks, we are now told that they will not honor the warranty either. So 2 and a half months later, we still have no mower. We spent $350 on a lawn ornament. DO NOT BUY a mower from John Deere!!!

Amazingly, I have had the exact same problem with the JS25, but haven't gotten as far as you have dealing w/ their customer service.

6 months old, and maybe 5 hours worth of use, and the engine died. How the hell does 1/2 quart of oil disappear in that amount of time?

I wish you had had a better experience...it doesn't leave me with much hope.

I also had the same issue with the js25 john deere mower. Four months old and the engine blew. Said not enough oil in the motor. How do you burn that much oil mowing once a week for an hour.

A month later: an update...
John Deere customer service is worthless. They claimed that they were not the responsible warranty claimant because the engine was made by Briggs & Stratton, and since it was Briggs & Stratton who denied the warranty claim from the dealer, it was therefore B&S who I had to deal with. Of course they could not provide me w/ contact info.
I filed a claim against the local dealer w/ the BBB, went and spoke with the owner, and he said that this mower is actually built by B&S, FOR John Deere, which I had never heard before. Of course the ENGINE is, but the whole mower? However, the B&S rep was due to arrive shortly after our meeting, and the dealer was able to convince the rep to do a sort of "courtesy" engine replacement. So I'm getting a new engine, but have to pay the dealer for the labor to install it. All things considered, I'm happy with this compromise.

I recently purchased a lawn tractor (LA-135) from my local JD dealer. It is well made and I have no complaints with it. I also needed a lawn mower and inquired about the JD mower. Dealer said he stopped selling them because they are junk & he had too many complaints. JD does NOT make them...B&S does and they are nothing but trouble. Shame on you JD for allowing the use of your name on an inferior product. I purchased the Honda mower and love it.

I had the mower for 2 years and the same thing happened to me tonight. I had a Toro for about 9 years before I bought this junk and did not change the oil once in the mower. I just added oil to the JD within the last 6 months of using it. Just a crappy product.

I also have the same issue. The first time that it was used this season the motor blew. What the he##! I spent close to $600 on this piece on crap! It has maybe 10 hours on the mower and looks brand new. The tank was drained and oil changed before putting up for the winter. If anyone gets restitution please post. Thanks. Pissed

My mower decided not to start after 3 years. Went through oil also and I don't know where it went. I might as well bring up how the blade would seize up
after using it for an hour. Had to manually rotate blade to free up bearing. John Deere support is a joke. Gave machine away to co-worker and bought a Honda.
