Hotels.com Complaint - Beware of hidden fees

Review by Omegadog24 on 2009-10-13
I made hotel reservations over the phone with hotels.com. I was quoted a nightly rate and no mention of fees. When I received the invoice, the fees and taxes were more than the nightly rate.

Did you think there weren't going to be any taxes? As far as booking fees, how would hotels.com make money if they charged you what the hotel charged them? People use some common sense. These third party company's are in business only because they charge you fees for their troubles.

i wouldn't really consider them hidden because obviously there are going to be extra fees and taxes. i agree with justthefaxx, it's common sense.

I never use a third party, I do a little research, and ask to speak to the manager on duty or sales manager. Many times they will give you the internet rate, I always ask what the final cost is, as taxes vary greatly not only from state to state but city to city, plus I always ask about the cancelation policy and write down the name of the person I spoke with, plus make sure I get a confirmation number and email to review. I travel a lot for work and I have never had a problem.

When you buy something from the store the price listed is prior to taxation. Why would hotels be any different. (They also charge a rack rate tax set by the city)
