Review by jhardworkingman on 2009-10-15
CARTHAGE & JOPLIN MO. -- I would look on my computer to see my balance and it would say I was in the good ! So I printed it off so I would have proof that I was in the Good ! I even went up to the ATM mechine and that even should that I was in the good ! But then I would Keep getting OVER DRAFT charges ! Now they have charged me $ 781.25 of OVER DRAFT charges I think bank of America is a rip off on their charges ! I think more people should speak out againest all banks that give their customer the shaft like their doing to me !

Your available balance doesn't include what you've done that day... like any purchases you've made online, when you've used your debit card like a credit card (i.e. not punch your pin code in), it doesn't show any automated debits that are going to post, nor any checks you've written. So, you make your purchases that day, and when everything goes to post into your account, those things you've forgotten about post, and then those purchases post on top of that... that's how overdrafts are created.
Keep a check register. Write things down as soon as you purchase them, write down the checks you've written. If the balance from your register doesn't match up to what it says online, means something hasn't posted yet... don't spend the money.

You don't get charged overdrafts unless you overdraft!

I guess the OP forgot that the balance doesn't show bills or outstanding withdrawls or checks.

This is the modern day equivalent of "I can't be overdrawn, I still have checks left".
