Skype Informative - Protecting Yourself From Spam & Phishing

Review by PepperElf on 2009-10-22
FYI if you use Skype here's a few things you might want to do to your account, to protect yourself from spam.

First of all, decide who you want to allow to call you. I have mine set to "anyone" because sometimes I do get calls that I want to receive from people who aren't my contacts. But you can set it up so that only your contacts can call you.

Second... You can do the same with your incoming texts. I've gotten 4 messages recently, some back to back, that were some kind of adverts for medications. So, I just set my Skype up to only allow my contacts to send me text messages.

Lastly... say you're like me and you don't mind getting calls from people who aren't on your contact list... but you don't want those telemarketers to call you up. (This is assuming you have Skypein).

Even though it's a skype number, you can still register it at https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx
