Cap Leaks Between Bed and Cap

MILTON, PENNSYLVANIA -- Had Leer Cap installed 1-2021. Cap leaked between the bed and the cap. Called Huffy's RV, where I bought the cap. They said take video of the leak and they will fix it. I brought the truck to them five times since 6-2021. Then after the fourth time I bought a seal from Extrude solutions the end of July 2023 and paid Huffy's $150.00 to install the seal. It still leaked. Dan at Huffy's called Leer and they said they don't guarantee the weather to be kept out. I called myself and got no response. I left five messages.

I saw a truck owner in Lowes parking lot in Belle Vernon, PA who had a Leer cap and I asked him if it leaked. He said no for five years. He gave me the name of the dealer he went to. I called them and asked if they would look at my cap, and they said no they didn't want to get in the middle of the situation. He gave me the number of Leer east coast. I called them and left a message for Scott **, warranty mgr. Haven't heard from him. I will pay a dealer to look at the cap....

Leaky and the Worst Warranty Team on the Planet

COLORADO -- I am extremely disappointed with my Leer 180 truck cap. Not only did all 3 windows leak like a sieve when it arrived, but the warranty team is absolutely horrible, while the customer service they provide is even worse. When I reached out to Leer to report the leaks, I was met with indifference and a complete lack of concern for my issue until 4 months of inactivity and communications when I finally called anyone I could to get traction. They made it clear that they were not interested in helping me and that my problem was not their responsibility.

To make matters worse, the cap now has mold under the carpet from leaking for 4 months. I finally have a new cap being delivered in “4-5 weeks” but have zero faith it will arrive in time and that the craftsmanship will be decent. I regret my decision to purchase a Leer cap and would not recommend it to anyone. I will be selling this as soon as possible and move on to another company that supports and stands by their product in a timely manner.

Poor Fit and Useless Customer Service

EAST HAVEN, CONNECTICUT -- I purchased a new Leer Truck Cap for my Ford F150 in the fall of 2018 when I purchased my truck. The Leer Cap was installed by a Leer dealer in Wallingford, Ct. After 3 months the cap leaked through the screws in the Thule rack and I returned to the installer who basically told me to recaulk it myself.

I contacted Leer Customer Service several times by email and received no replies. Within a year the back window over the tailgate began to leak and water got into my toolbox. After a year had passed I contacted Leer Customer Service by email and received no reply. I patched it up the best I could. When it started to leak again last year I contacted Leer Customer Service and was told that the cap was no longer under warranty and there is nothing they could do. I asked if there was a dealer close that had a better reputation for repair and was told to look it up on the website.

CALIFORNIA -- The quality of the construction is very poor. Gasket seals don't fit and when it rains we get a lot of water in the truck bed. Overall construction is just fair. I would not buy it again. We did research and their website said they are made in the US. Turns out they are made in Mexico. According to the dealer, if we have a warranty problem we have to the factory in Mexico! Very poor customer service and poor quality of product. Don't try to contact Leer. I have with no response and good luck finding a phone number.

New Fit on Ford Trucks Is Extremely Disappointing

CALIFORNIA -- Having owned Leer canopies in the past, and appreciated the high level of quality and proper fit, when I purchased my latest pickup I did not even consider looking at another product. As seen in the photos, I am extremely disappointed with the center “bowed” gap on both sides of the canopy. I only considered a Leer product as in the past they were the best fitting and looking product on the market. Sadly this canopy does not meet that standard.

I have waited the past couple of weeks to address this as I have been looking at other Leer (and other high end manufacturers) locally installed canopies and have verified that most of the Leer canopies I have seen fit properly, but some do not. As for the other manufacturers products I viewed, they fit properly and do not have the same “bowed” outsides.

The response from Customer Service was "We made the skirted units on the sides wider about 1\2 inches. This is so the unit while in motion does not rub the truck bed in case the clamps/J-bolt comes loose and the unit shifts." Being that the canopies for Dodge and GM trucks fit properly I find this response to be poor, at best. I am hopeful that Leer will stand by its good name and product, and do the right thing. I will update when and if I get a response from Leer.

Leer Cap Window Exploded for No Reason

WOODLAND, CALIFORNIA -- Driving north on the 405 freeway in WA state on a hot and sunny day in summertime 2017. My driver side cap window completely exploded into a million pieces all over the freeway unprovoked and for no apparent reason whatsoever.

It appears that most cap/shell companies don't cover glass so I may have to file a comprehensive claim with GEICO for replacement. Bummer. Kind of a shame that the window simply exploded on its own after exactly 2 years of ownership. I would highly advise not buying a single pane of glass models like the 100XQ model or equivalent snug-top model. If you look at my photo you'll see that there is a ton of chipping even on the outside rim of the glass

Leer - Worst Warranty and Customer Service EVER

MONTANTA -- Bought a Leer shell for my brand new truck, started fading in a couple years and nothing but problems with all the windows and seals. Now, my back glass broke, which happens, and they don't make it anymore, so what Leer told me (very slow response) is that their limited lifetime warranty is really a faux 5 year warranty and that they'd be glad to paint my cap for $700 but they can do NOTHING about my back glass, because you know, it's my fault they don't make it any more... I inquired again and they will not even respond. Absolutely the worst company I've ever dealt with, do yourself a big favor and steer clear of Leer.

Poor Customer Service

MILTON, PENNSYLVANIA -- I purchased a cap from Leer less than two years ago. The plastic piece on the rear window that covers the tailgate is extremely warped. Leer will do absolutely nothing to help. They say this is a part, not part of the cap. This part is so warped the double sided tape is peeling away from the glass. It looks like crap, leaks and they will do nothing for me. Don't ever buy a Leer product!

Lousy Leaky Leer Lacks Quality And Service

HARBOR, OREGON -- Purchased a 180 shell for my 2017 Nissan Frontier over a year ago and had nothing but trouble from start. Shell was sent back 3 times. Each time they failed to fix a poorly fitting rear door. First they just reset the frame and left silver rivets that were suppose to be black and the door still had large gaps on one side. Dealer tried to slide the door to one side and told me that was within acceptable tolerance. That just worked its way back to open the gaps on both sides. Then they put a different door on and this time the rear door would not even close! Then they sent a new shell, with the same poor fitting door.

When they told me they would have to drill holes in my truck to make it fit, I said ENOUGH! I was then told I would have to wait for the dealer to refund me the $2,300.00 I paid. Well that was in November 2019 and as of 2/27/20 I am still waiting for them to save up the money to pay me back!

The Leer area representative was a coward that couldn't bother to make a 1/4 mile trip to see my shell. The fact that this is the 3rd representative in a year speaks volumes for piss poor leadership from Truck Accessory Group and Leer. One representative told me the full coverage door would fix my problem, but the idiot didn't even know they don't make that door for this shell.... Now I drive 30,000 miles a year with signs telling everyone that sees the shell Leer Sucks, and Be Leary of Leer for all to see as I continue to wait for my refund.
