NCO Portfolio Management Complaint - NCO Gets Creative! - Credit Card Offers

Review by tachirah on 2009-10-23
PO BOX 4865, BEAVERTON, OREGON -- The notorious NCO Portfolio Management has done something I have never seen before, but perhaps you have! In an effort to collect a debt on an old credit card that has been charged off, NCO will send you a fake credit MasterCard offer!

Complete with a cheesy fake cardboard facsimile of a credit card on top, and a reference to your old Capital One account, they offer you a "Pre-Approved" Mastercard, "reserved in your name" that actually "helps" you pay down your old debt.

My particular offer claimed to leave me a credit line of a whopping $50, once I begin my monthly payments!

The best part? On the bottom right corner of the offer form, below the signature box, is the filename: FormFaux_9/09.

What a hoot!

Nope. Not a new ploy. Several collection agencies have used this technique. The actual intent of this is to reset the statute of limitations clock for that particular debt. They then have a better legal standing to go after you.

Good for you not falling for it.

tn is right, If they are about to reach the statute of limitations on your debt, even a $5 payment to the debt will reset the date for them for another 7 years.
