Family Video 3222 Glenview Rd Glenview IL Complaint - Stay Far Away From This Horrible Place

Review by Krasivyj on 2009-11-02
GLENVIEW, ILLINOIS -- I went to rent a few videos from this place and it was my first time ever going there. After I found what I wanted I went to pay for my videos. The woman behind the counter was rude from the start, demanding I wait until she finished texting before checking me out. Then she finally gave me a total and I gave her my credit card. While she was running it through I noticed they had popcorn and I decided to buy some. Since she already ran my card through I was going to pay cash for it but she claimed she hadn't run it through yet. Something should of tipped me off when she asked me for my card again but I just blew it off. I paid for everything on one transaction and went home. After watching one movie I decided to check my email and found not one but two receipts from Paypal (I have a debit card from Paypal which I used for this transaction). Upon checking my online statement I saw that the woman had ran my card through twice for two different transactions. When I called them back so they could correct the problem I asked to speak to the manager, since the employees showed they are not competent. The manager listened to me for all of 2 seconds then cut me off mid sentence and said her computer didn't show any second transaction and then proceeded to call me a liar. When I said I have proof she then said, "You're lying B@#$H, come down here and show me the proof." So I said fine I'll be right there and hung up. When I got there she had called the police and told a completely different story, saying I had threatened her life which is a complete lie. The police of course took her side since she was young and blonde and was crying all over him and making a big show. It was so fake I don't know how they let her get away with it. Even though I had proof and was showing it to them they said she was right because she was the "manager" and there was nothing I could do. What really made me mad was whenever the police weren't looking she would give me an evil smile that was almost saying, "Ha ha, I got away with robbing you". This company stole $17.00 and that doesn't include what I paid for the movies. Not only that the movies I did get I couldn't watch because they were so scratched up and dirty. I bet when I return them they'll say I did it because I was mad and that'll give them another excuse to take money from me. I have never in my life experienced such rude, evil people.

I would love to hear the other side of this story or to have been a fly on the wall and see what really happened.

I would call up your bank and tell them what happen and they will reverse the charge and then you can go back there and give her the evil look and smile(LOL). Good Luck.

Don't ever go back down to a store where someone has said that to you, because it will just escalate the situation and not to your favor. It is lucky you did not get arrested. It is their homefield.

I would suggest in the future that you call the corporate headquarters that night and file a complaint. Go back the next morning (when calm) and make a complaint with another manager, clerk, etc. Then follow up with a letter to the owner/corporation.

I'm sorry, but this is completely impossible for a number of reasons.

1) If it were your first time in the store, you would have received half price on all rentals. To spend $17 on your first visit, you would have had to rent 12 new one night releases. I doubt you did that.

2) Our POS system allows for an instant reversal of credit card charges. If you did immediately decide to buy something else, all that has to happen is for the operator to hit escape on the POS, and it will not charge your card.

3) Family Video, especially one in the home city of Glenview IL, has a policy of always making the customer happy - PERIOD. Never would this incident have escalated the way you describe. The only reason police would ever be called is if a customer threatened violence against an employee.
