Texas Department of Human Services Informative - Be prepared to WAIT (and possibly lose your job)!
TEXAS -- If you think TxDHS offices care about how much time you miss from work while waiting on them, guess again! My latest incident occurred today, when I went to the Irving DHS Office to simply pick up a form to reapply for Medicaid for my children (just my children, not me - there's a completely different application process for that!). I have to reapply, because when we moved from Texarkana, we were, for some unknown reason (at least to the Texarkana DHS Office), dropped from Medicaid and forced into CHIP (TexCare?); however, CHIP will not cover my child who does not live with me because he lives in a private group home in Texarkana still, though I am still fully responsible for his medical coverage while he is there. At first, this was an issue itself that had to be dealt with on a special case basis (ok, no biggie - it only involved me getting the regional and state DHS OFfices involved, as well as my legislative reps), but once that was resolved, then all was well.
I have many, many other complaints in regards to TxDHS services (such as Child Care Management Services and the Food Stamp Program), but I'll save those for another time. I just love how the responsible single parent who doesn't get child support gets "dumped" on by the state, don't you?
