Wal-Mart Complaint - Walmart/Green Dot Visa
The bill pay portion of this product is faulty and has caused my car to be repossessed.
I have been using the bill pay feature for about 3 months now and my car payment is made weekly. Despite the fact that the online statement and detail shows the account marked "Paid" it was indeed not completed. The detail of each bill shows the date and method of transfer as well. My detail shows that the payments were made to the dealer electronically while I have come to discover that they were paper checks.
Why does this matter? Time and truthfulness.
A paper check takes about 4 days (so they say) to reach the creditor from the time the funds are debited from the account. More than once the payment has taken 7 days and once was not received at all. All combined it forced a 3 week arrear in my account and the aforementioned repossession.
I called the Walmart customer service line who was very unhelpful, saying there was nothing they could do so I called the Walmart Market Manager in my area who also made no inroads.
Constant badgering finally awarded me with a phone call from Green Dot who said they would refund the unpaid checks but NOT cover the nearly $600 repossession fee because I failed to notify them that the dealer had not received the paper check...ummm... wha? I explained to the representative that my statement detail showed electronic payment and not paper check payment, so how was I to know that they were receiving paper checks?
So, being unable to respond to this, the Green Dot representative said she'd call me back. I'm still waiting. No car, and no way to get to work.
UPDATE: I just discovered that the Walmart Money Card is actually administered by what seems to be a small company in Monrovia California. Their phone number is 626-775-3744 (if the listing is correct). The reason I bought a car from a "buy here pay here" place is because I went from a $70K a year job to a $20K a year job and lost almost everything.
