United Parcel Service Complaint - What Can You Do?
AUSTIN, TEXAS -- Recently I missed a delivery attempt from UPS for a package that I had to sign for. Their note indicated they would redeliver the following business day so I took off and waited but nothing. After I called the 800#, they called the local warehouse and had a supervisor call me back. Well, the package was not rescanned (whatever that meant) and basically was missing. I could not wait any longer for them to attempt redelivery so asked if I could pick it up at the warehouse when it was found. No problem, he said, but I had to call customer service back myself and ask them to put a "Same Day Will Call Request" in my tracking history. I understood this to mean they would call me when the package showed up. NOT HARDLY!!! The comment they placed in my file actually read: A DELIVERY CHANGE REQUEST FOR THIS PACKAGE WILL BE PROCESSED AS REQUESTED, THE RECEIVER WILL PICK UP AT UPS FACILITY AT THEIR CONVENIENCE. THIS MUST BE WITHIN 5 DAYS. Now doesn't this sound like the package is there and waiting for me to pick it up. I called UPS every day for a week checking on the status of my lost package and every time they told me it was there waiting for pick up. I had a friend who worked for this UPS location and he checked for the package every day....it was not there! After I explained the situation one too many times I finally spoke to a supervisor at UPS Customer Service and asked if they would change the statement to indicate the package was missing so my shipper could file a tracer. He stated he would do this but to date nothing has changed. I had a hell of a time canceling my order because as far as my shipper knew, the package was there for me to pick up. First off, how can UPS lose a package unless it was delivered to someone else by mistake or stolen? Furthermore, why won't they assume responsibility and indicate so in the tracking remarks. Guess that's too much to ask.
