Hotwire, Inc Complaint - Misleading Star Rating
I am not the first person to complain about Hotwire's misleading Star Rating system. To make a long story short, I paid for a four star hotel but got a 3.5 star room as listed on their own Flight + Hotel package search. I questioned the discrepency, and an excerpt of their repsonse is attached below with hotel name removed (my issue is not the with the hotel, but with Hotwire's business model). You decide if they deserve your business.
"I understand that you disagree with the star rating for (HOTEL) due to some other sites listing this property as a 3.5-star hotel. I would be happy to provide you with information regarding this matter...
(Removed several paragraphs of how they rate their hotels.)
...In addition to our Star Rating Guide, Hotwire frequently benchmarks our properties to ensure that they meet the standards of the star rating assigned to them. This hotel was last researched on November 7, 2009. At that time Expedia rated this property as a 3.5-star while Travelocity and Orbitz gave it a 4-star rating. It was determined at that time that the 4-star rating accurately reflects the service level, accommodations and facilities of this property.
If you noticed, when searching via the Hotwire Vacations link, our packages are now powered by Expedia therefore, the star rating shown would reflect Expedia's assigned rating for this property."
Correct me if I am wrong, but did they not just admit they sold me a 3.5 star hotel for a misleading 4 star as rated on their own Hotwire Vacations website? On top of that, they refuse to do anything about it.
