Meineke Econo Lube N' Tune Complaint - Wrong oil filter ruined engine

Review by Maryann_61 on 2009-11-09
MERIDIAN, IDAHO -- Meineke Econo Lube N' Tune #4305 installed the wrong oil filter in my car, causing the oil to empty while I was driving, ruining my engine.

The franchisee stonewalled for 6 full days. After I forced a response by going to his shop, he not only rejects all responsibility, he blames me for driving the car.

I allowed him to tow my car from my mechanic's shop to his shop to inspect it, and now he even refuses to tow it back to my mechanic's shop. I called corporate and received no response from them.

My car is being held hostage by his refusal to tow it back to where he got it, forcing me to incur the tow charges. The estimates for replacing my engine are $1950-3700.

This was the most expensive "cheap" oil change I ever experienced.

If he won't allow you to file an insurance claim with him, I'd say file one under your policy and let them duke it out with the owner.

Good Advice. Your insurance company may hesitate to take a claim. I would argue this falls under the comprehensive part of your policy. I would argue it as the equivalent of someone putting sand in your gas tank or scratching your car. Read your policy closely because some refer to coverage while the vehicle is being maintained, although I am not sure which coverage that is applicable to.
