DirecTV Inc Complaint - They tell you what you want to hear
I called several times to get information about Direct TV. First I was told there was no cable in my area (then later found out there is). I was told it would be installed within 1-3 days (when I actually scheduled, I was told the earliest appointment was in 7 days). It took the installer 7 hours to set up 5 TVs and all of the lines were already in the house and outlets were on the walls. I was told that local channels would be included. When we began using the service that evening, we couldn't find ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX. When I called to ask how to find them, I was told that you have to ask to have local channels included. They looked up my zip code and said there were no local channels in my area, and the only option was to request a waiver and if approved I could get them in 45 days. It would be an additional charge of $2.50 per month per channel. I told them I'd discuss with my husband. When I called back to cancel, I was then told that you can get local channels through an antenna and converter box (an option not previously given to me). I cancelled the service and was told how to mail the equipment back. When I asked about the dish I was told that I owned it and that they wouldn't remove it. I asked how I could own it when I hadn't paid anything for it. They just kept repeating the same thing, "It's Direct TV's policy that we don't remove the dish." I spoke to a supervisor who told me they would come out and remove it for a service charge of $50. Now I have to pay to have equipment uninstalledthat they installed and I cancelled within 24 hours! Beware when you talk with their representatives--they will tell you whatever they think you want to hear!
