Erie Insurance Group Complaint - Erie property insurance, they won't pay for damages, give the runaround
WAUKESHA, WISCONSIN -- I am a general contractor. I was helping a rural WI couple secure a claim for storm damage on their home. There were tornado warnings and extremely high winds in July of 09 that ripped several shingles from their roof and damaged by cracking or tearing about 50 more. They sent out an adjustor that agreed whole-heartedly that the roof was wind-damaged and needed to be replaced. 3 weeks later, he acted as if he thought the claim was for hail damage, and couldn't find any hail storms during that time frame, ect...So, he came out and looked at the roof again, again agreed that there was significant wind-damage, then stalled for 6 weeks or so. Erie then contracted a firm call 'Roof Consulting' to come out and examine the roof. By this time, we had sent numbered photos with damages marked in colored chalk to Erie several times, but the photos were somehow 'lost' in transit. Roof Consulting, an engineering firm hired by insurance companies to tip the scales for them in claims they don't want to pay, met with us on the roof and agreed with our findings, documenting the same damages we had.
The next day, Erie sent the same adjustor and a claims manager out to climb onto the roof and look again, desperately trying to find a way to avoid paying for it. And we haven't heard from them in a few weeks again. Ridiculous. I work with insurance companies every day in this capacity, and thus far Erie is easily the worst, in my opinion.
