Hilton-Doubletree Complaint - Hilton Scams Honors Member

Review by LindadHughes on 2009-11-18
MOON TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA -- I booked two hotel rooms at the Hilton-Doubletree on-line. Mistakenly, I booked rooms that were non-refundable/unchangeable. Well Hilton, under no uncertain terms, would change the reservation for two weeks later, even while an additional room was going to be added. So, had I used the reservation, we would have saved a whopping $16 per night for this type of reservation. Instead we were out $706. They refused to work with me, would rather lose a long time Honors Member. You would think during these hard times, Hotel chains would do whatever they could to salvage their good customers.

Its really the other way around. With hard times, they are enforcing their contracts more diligently. That's why making a mistaking in a reservation has financial consequences as you discovered.

It doesn't sound like they didn't anything wrong.

"I booked rooms that were non-refundable/unchangeable."

this should have been all you needed to remember. with these type of rooms, you get them at a lower price.

Not knocking you, but what the others said. Ya got to read the terms & conditions.
One question, how many nights per year do you stay at Hilton's?

If you're a traveler you need to be conscious about what is non-refundable and what is not when making a booking and this applies even to a greater extent to airline tickets, the majority of which now appear to be non-refundable. It's unfortunate, but what's your complaint? Hilton has refundable rooms for about $40 per night more. Many other hotel chains allow you to cancel without charge up to the day before your arrival. It may be a good idea to book one of those if you are not sure of your plans
