DirecTV Inc Complaint - Debited 978.00 Illegally For My Neighbors Service Without Authorization
We have been semi-content customers of DirecTV for about ten years now, even though we have had a few incorrect billings that took forever to get fixed. Last month these inconsiderate jerks deducted 978.00 from our bank account (on Friday, after the banks close) without any notification or authorization even though we were current on our bill and had no service changes. After incurring 300.00 in overdraft fees on Monday, we started calling them to try and get this resolved. After one completely useless service representative after another, and roughly 4 hours of our time, we finally found out that they had charged us for OUR NEIGHBORS BILL, which was about 200.00 and overdue.
We were floored by this and asked them how in the world they could do this. They replied that our card had been used to secure the installation and they had the right to bill any card that had ever been used on the account. We had, in fact, paid the 100.00 installation fee for the receiver because our neighbors had just changed banks and didn't have their accounts set up yet, and they had just given us the money in cash. This was over a year ago, and despite the fact that we didn't owe them the money, these completely rude and insensitive representatives told us for three days and countless calls that there was nothing they could do except investigate the matter and possibly credit us our money back in 8-10 business days. We called all the way to the presidents's office, nothing got accomplished. 2 weeks later we got the 978.00 credited back to our account, and there's been no indication by them to credit us the overdrafts we suffered.
2 days ago I was listening to the radio, and a young lady got on the line during a talk show and stated that the exact same thing had happened to her last month, right down to the same amount. I'm thinking maybe this wasn't so random.... is there a chance that their fiscal year ended in October and they were pumping up their bottom line to increase their bonuses and stock dividends?
This is the most unscrupulous company I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with, and as soon as we can get out of this service we'll be rid of them for good. We live in Memphis, I'd love to hear if this happened anywhere else.
