McAfee Complaint - McAfee no to be trusted - McAfee anti virus

McAfee anti virus - Complaint
Review by ozarkjim on 2009-11-26
This is worthless software. With McAfee installed and running I got a Trojan Virus called Security Tool. It didn't catch it so I ran a scan. It didn't find it. The result..$100.00 to get my PC cleaned at a local service shop. I complained..to no avail. Deleted McAfee and installed Norton. I found it interesting that Norton scanned over 1 million items..while McAfee would do a bit less than 200 thousand. My complaint was answered by someone with an Indian sounding name who, I'm sure, merely responded with a form letter used to try and placate many like me.

I ditched Norton for McAfee years ago and no problems

I gave up on any paid subscription virus software. None provided any form of support. Their singular purpose was to get your money and ignore you. So I changed to AVG free version. No money. No support (none expected for free). No hassles. No viruses. No problems.

I've got Mcaffee though Cox cable. Zero virus issues.

I can vouch for the OP because the same thing happened to me. I reformatted my laptop and apparently it came with McAfee preinstalled on it. It went to update and downloaded the trojan with it. I can verify it was McAfee because it was attached to the security update. Luckily nothing useful was installed on my laptop yet, and once I put my REAL virus protection on it took care of the problem.

A lot depends upon the websites you visit also.

I don't visit virus laden websites. I don't even think I was in the process of going online at that point, I think when it happened I was still deleting the preloaded crap off my laptop, right after Hubby set up my wireless access again.

What you got isn't a virus, it's malware. That's why your AV program didn't catch it. These days you also need an anti malware program running too. There are several free and inexpensive ones that you can download.
