Holiday Inn Compliment - Holiday Inn Chicago Northshore
SKOKIE, ILLINOIS -- We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Skokie, IL. for 4 days in mid-October and found it to be well run and pleasant. It was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, the indoor pool was about 75-80 degrees (comfortable when the temperature outside was 29-50 degrees and also set in an open atrium so it did not have a strong chlorine smell), and the in-hotel restaurant served a nice Indian-Asian/Ameriican fare at a reasonable price. The breakfast buffet was very good. The hotel is convenient to O'Hare Airport, approximately 7 miles westof it (20-35 minutes depending on traffic). I would not take the expressway route generally recommended on computer maps, however. Take Mannheim Road north(left directly out of the rental car lots) to West Touhy Avenue instead. It's faster and avoids a toll. To enter the hotel from the airport drive 1 mile north on Mannheim and take a left on West Touhy at the light, then go about 5 miles down West Touhy Ave., pass the hotel on your left, turn left at the next light (where the Dunkin' Donuts is), and enter the hotel lot from the rear (left at the end of the street). To drive to downtown Chicago, take West Touhy Ave. east to either Lake Shore Drive or Michigan Ave. south (30-45 minutes depending on traffic). Our room charge was $112.95 per night for a room with a king size bed facing out on to the atrium where the pool and restaurant are located. There is an additional State Occupancy Tax of 6% and a local tax of 3.5%. This is a reasonable price for the area. The hotel is located in a well lit, well patrolled, mercantile/residential neighborhood. A private security patrol is employed by the hotel as well. I recommend this hotel and will stay there again in our future trips to Chicago.
