Chase Manhattan Bank Complaint - Do anything you can to avoid doing business with Chase
Even given a dramatic decrease in income during 2009, my husband and I have been careful and responsible with our money. We are former WaMu customers, usually living a bit higher on the hog, but with excellent credit, paying on time and forecasting and planning our expenses with care.
Chase seems to have a practice of holding onto your money that is CRAZY. My sister and even the customer service representative I talked with at Chase have had the same issue that I've had twice. They, for reasons that don't make sense (they said my deposit diverged from my normal pattern, though it couldn't have been more consistent) held my deposit for 2 weeks FOR THE SECOND TIME without telling me (actually I received a letter in the mail 5 business days later, which is useless). Not only without telling me, but while showing the money as available in the account. I repeat - The money showed as "available" in the account. I paid bills, everything bounced, our debit cards got declined and I started receiving insufficient funds emails - though the account showed over $4k available. No access to money, mortgage, utilities, everything rejected. Late fees, hit on my credit. It has been a week and HOURS of my time trying to unravel the mess and clear our reputation.
Last month they held $20k from my sister's business because they screwed up and didn't send the Visa terminal then said they had to hold the money for 3 weeks because she hadn't used the terminal. They couldn't pay their vendors.
Chase is not interested in your financial success and will do everything it can to complicate your responsible planning and spending into fees and interest for them. RUN AWAY AND DON'T LOOK BACK.
