Progressive Auto Insurance Complaint - Appalling Service - Billing Errors
ALASKA -- In May 2004 I received a cancellation notice, no bills had ever been sent. Checking my account on-line, there was no balance due. I contacted Progressive and was told my paid in full discount had not been properly applied in Dec 2003. I was also told a $43 credit would be sent to me. It wasn't.
At the end of May I started receiving numerous billing statements, one a day for 10 days. The statements were for differing amounts. I contacted my agent at Ken Murray Insurance. It took her a week dealing with Progressive to resolve the mess. On June 16, 2004 I was told the paid in full amount for me renewal policy would be $2217. I wrote a check.
Then I get billings from Progressive for $958, $183 and $120. I contact the company again. I am told that I still owed money from the prior policy in December 2003. I remind Progressive I never received any billings and on May 7 one of their staff said my account issues were resolved.
At the time of the renewal in June 2004, I dropped a vehicle from coverage (we have five covered including a motorhome). Instead of sending me the refund, Progressive applies the funds to the alleged balance of $577 (where did this come from??)and states I owe $120. No amount of discussion with Progressive has resolved this issue. Now they are refusing to answer my most recent emails.
They are in violation of the Fair Billing Act. I have filed complaints in their headquarter state of Ohio with the Better Business Bureau and Ohio Department of Insurance. I have also filed complaints in my home state of Alaska and with the Federal Trade Commission. I will continue to file complaints with every available agency possible. Having been a customer for over 8 years and appalled and livid that Progressive can conjure up imaginary premiums six months later!
