Northern Tool and Supply Complaint - Let's be honest! - JET Benchtop Band Saw — 10in. Wheel Diameter, Model# JWBS10OS

Review by 1wrencher on 2009-12-04
I purchased one of these band saws from Northern Tool who misrepresented it as being usefull for wood or metal cutting. I needed it for metal cutting so I ordered one and it wouldn't work for metal at all. I wrote a review on the companies website basically stating the aforementioned fact and they wouldn't post it. Hey Northern Tool, either post all reviews positive or negative or let other unsuspecting consumers know that this saw doesn't do what you make everyone think it does. In other words, BE HONEST!!

I agree. Either post both good and bad reviews or don't post any. This is as bad as the companies posting false positive reviews on their products, or is so close I can't see the difference. All or nothing, or we will post here to make your customers aware you have your thumb on the scale.

"Thumb on the Scale" Starlord, I've not heard that expression in years. In case someone didn't know that's when the butcher would put his thumb on the scale and press down to add a little weight to the purchase. 1wrencher, you've posted your complaint here so trust me people will be informed even though Northern Tool decided to ignore it.

so what happened when you tried to cut metal?

and did you try to contact them over the warranty?

As a follow up I would like to add that when I tried to cut a soft alloy like aluminum or any mild steel the saw would come to a complete stop. I went so far as to spend another $100 on line to order a custom cut and welded Lenox blade to see if perhaps it was not the correct blade that was on the saw but I had the exact same result. When I contacted the company I was told that although the saw was, and is, listed in the metal cutting portion of the catalogue it is recommended primarily for wood cutting only. I would have liked to have known that before purchasing the unit. In the end the result was that the unit is assembled, I've "USED" it and it's mine. The only problem is that I can't actually use it in the manner I needed it for in the first place.

Try a 14 tooth wavey metal cutting blade, Lenox should be able to fix you up.
