Auto repairs at Saturn of Columbia, S.C. - Complaint
Review by bettie on 2009-12-12
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA -- I bough a 2005 Ion from Saturn of Columbia in 2006 with 19,000 miles and since I am a retired nurse it now has only 43,000 miles. First year was great but mailing something at a roadside box I could not get the car steering wheel to move much. I had it towed to the repair shop at Saturn of Columbia, S. C. and dean the manager said he had to put a new steering column on it which cost 800 dollars. One Tech said they straightened out but dean insisted on the new column. Today Dec. 12th of 2009 I could not start the car, had it jumpered and went back to the Saturn dealership Saturn of Columbia, again Dean was there. Not only did I need a new battery he said but new ignition and switch and a lot of diagnosis test and the fuel injection cleaned which came to a total of 507 dollars. Look I think all it need was a battery. I looked around and I only saw people getting ripped on repair bills and not customers buying cars. Advance Auto told me that the mileage was too low to require a new steering wheel and also the new ignigtion switch? I am retired and live on a fixed income. I would have had my mechanic do the battery but because of the nature of it had to be done at the dealership. I am probably not every going to buy another Saturn as I have only one dealership here and Dean is the manager of the auto repair shop. I feel they are thinking, there is that old lady again lets see what we can rip her for today. That 507 was my Christmas money so will be a lean Christmas this year for my family. Thank you, Elizabeth F. Taylor (bewildered and perplexed as to what the car really needed. My mechanic said only a battery as I keep up with the new tires and maintenance of the vehicle.

Also, if the car started after you jumped it, why didn't you start with the least expensive potential problem (the battery) and work your way up? That being said, Saturns are relatively cheap to buy but expensive to repair. I owned a SL1 for a few years and I ended up needing to replace the shifter (to shift it out of park into drive). The shifter cost me over $600.
