Korean Air Complaint - Don't expect to sit by your wife or family. - flight to Seoul

flight to Seoul - Complaint
Review by angryatkal on 2009-12-14
I bought my tickets on Dec 1st through Airfare.com. For my wife and I to go to Korea on Dec 21st to see our son. Korean Air decided that we do not need to sit together for the 15 hour flight, in fact middle seats in separate parts of the plane will be fine. When I contacted Korean Air about this they told me to ,"wait until I get to Seattle and hope that somebody cancels and the seattle agents might consider accomodating you." $4500 for tickets on a 15 hour flight and I get a "Hope" for an answer. I have spent numerous HOURS on the phone and writting emails and Korean Air refuses to even accept the fact that A MARRIED COUPLE SHOULD BE AFFORD THE BASIC AND SIMPLE CIVILITY OF SITTING TOGETHER FOR A 15 HOUR FLIGHT!!!!! But KOREAN AIR refuses! Of course for $750 I was told I can change the tickets. Yes, $750 is the change fees, I would still be responsible for the difference in price of the new tickets. THANKS KOREAN AIR FOR SHOWING ME YOU WILL NOT HONOR YOUR OWN CUSTOMER COMMITMENT!!

You are booking your flight really late. Chances are, many other families who are going to visit relatives in Asia during the holidays booked months ago and grabbed all the seats together. When you buy your ticket just three weeks before one of the busiest travel weeks of the year you have to take what you can get. Did you expect Korean Airlines not to assign seats to other families back in April or May just incase you decided three weeks out you want to be on the same plane?

I would think that there are only so many seats that you can pair people up with. Some people are traveling alone so you will have these single seats that someone will have to sit in. Unfortunatly it was you and your wife. Since when did they guarantee seat arrangements?

Ask someone on the plane to switch seats with you. You'd be amazed at how willing people are to make sure families sit together.

I don't wanna be stuck next to some kid that's not mine. I'm all for parents and kids sitting together

Angry, I've not been on a 15 hour flight but have given up a prime seat on a 4 hour flight so folks could be seated together. I was stuck in that middle row and don't even remember how many seats across but that was my choice. Things happen with any airline. We, the passengers, do whatever we can to help in most cases.

"A MARRIED COUPLE SHOULD BE AFFORD THE BASIC AND SIMPLE CIVILITY OF SITTING TOGETHER FOR A 15 HOUR FLIGHT!!!!!"

This can happen with any airline when it is full. People pre-reserve seats for a reason. If you bought your tickets after the pre-reserved seats are gone then you're just out of luck. I'm sure you both survived the ordeal. By the way, what are you calling and emailing about now that the flight took place? Trying to get a free ticket?

On my last flight to the US from Warsaw, my husband and I were not seated together. Luckily, the plane was pretty empty, so we grabbed a couple of seats near the back of the plane.

I was prepared to not sit with him, so it was no big deal, as I am an adult, after all.

An airline cannot just move people around the cabin. If Korean Air took it upon themselves to move people around on the flight, then they are not honoring customer comittment. Those passengers paid for those seats months in advance. How would you feel if you paid for a flight 6 months in advance only to find out you're seat was moved cause some couple bought a few tickets a week before the flight? You'd be pissed.

that's prolly why they always ask first.
