Had a very similar experience with Makemytrip as others have mentioned. Booked the ticket via their website which had a technical error. Tried to get both telephone and email confirmation of the flight and was assured it will be fine and they'd confirm via telephone. NEVER heard back from them except an email less than 24 hours before departure time - the email said our ticket was canceled and referred to a flight we had never booked!
We called to find out what was going on and the only assurance they could give is that 'only one leg of the flight was canceled for one person so the other person can still fly'. They also (strangely) thought is was ok that my partner had a return flight but not an outbound flight - somehow implying that everything was fine because she had a return flight (but no way of getting to that location!)
We ended up having to pay $50 in fees for a flight we had no chance of ever getting on.
Basically, this ticket should NOT have ever been processed since the entire leg was not confirmed. We were not allowed to speak to a supervisor and simply hit a brick wall with the customer service. They would NOT issue a refund until I finally caved in and said 'ok, I'll pay the fee'. Extortion!
While traveling in India it was much easier just to get the hotel or travel agent to book flights - it's always negotiable so no more expensive plus you can be assured of receiving the correct flight.
