WALMART Complaint - How Far Will The Police Go ?

Complaint
Review by redrebel on 2004-08-23
DERBY, KANSAS -- I wanted to add an update to this problem. My husband has yet to go to court on this ,however he has just gotten a letter from Walmart stating he owes them 50.00. They say they have that right ,even though they refused payment at the time and he has NOT BEEN FOUND GUILTY. Is this one way of walmart squeezing comsumers out of their money ? If the cashier would have had him take the merchandise out of the cart in the first place ,instead of telling him to leave it there, he would have remembered the ink cartridge.WalMart YOU CAN GO TO HELL I have no problem spending my money elsewhere (at least maybe it will stay in this country)

I am disabled (terminal)and had just gotten back from my doctor, I had been in serious pain for several months, and today was not a good one.My husband had went to Derby Walmart to pick up my medication (which I had not taken pain medicine for a very long time) He was told that it would be around 15 min. ,he went ahead and picked out a bag of dog food and a ink cartridge for my printer ( I take 4 online college courses)he kept waiting and when one lady had returned from lunch since it had been quite sometime he asked about the medication again. This woman told him it was ready, another then said it was not. In the meantime I had called him on his cell phone ,I was crying as it had been a bad day. After over an hour he was ready to check out. The lady scanned the dog food without removing it from the cart and rang up the medicine. On the way out he was stopped by want to be cops(loss prevention) and was lead back inside the store. He had forgotten about the cartridge which was still in the cart.He is also in school and was running late as they had kept him waiting so long.He offered to pay for it but was denied the right to do so.Suddenly the police was there, they wanted to make him an offer. My husband has NEVER been in trouble with the police before. The police wanted him to work with them to bust the doctors office where I had been.My husband was smarted off to by the cop , taking this type of medicine will make you do this.IT WAS NOT HIS NOR DOES HE EVER TAKE ANY ! This was explained to the cop, however as most police he was a smart (***)since when do you get the police called by WalMart when a certain clinic gives a legal prescription? I do Not expect anything to be done as I have YET seen or heard of you doing anything against the wrongs committed to the public by anyone wearing a badge.THIS HAS TO STOP ! Kansas needs protection from the bull dogs with badges.OH by the way my medicine alone was over 80.00 , and the cop also took that away out into the hall then gave it back.We counted when he got home to make sure none was STOLEN

As a resolution, I would like the following:

I would like to have charges brought up against WalMart for breaking my privacy of what I purchase in the drug store, and also sue the police dept. and loss prevention for the way the situation was handled.I am sure you have even been forgetful.SO DON'T LIE, I KNOW YOU ARE NOT PERFECT.

Please contact me if you need more details regarding this incident.

Stories like this suck. It's no wonder people don't trust cops when so many of them act like bullies to decent people.

Try living in Denver, where seemingly, the cops will just shoot you. 4 civillians were killed in the last 60 days, 3 unarmed. Im sure its worse in other metro's, but this is where I am. Someones gettin a little antsy with the trigger finger!!!

ok i feel bits and pieces have been left out of this story. I used to work for a department store although not walmart but we see these things happen all the time where something may have been "left behind" in the cart ..but we certainly did not call in the swat team for goodness sakes...it sounds like he may have "appeared" to be concealing the item..and as for the medication I am sorry you had to suffer while your husband was being questioned but if it really happened this way and it was an honest mistake I hope you get retribution

You seemed to have a very low opinion of the police. (I can't believe you counted the pills because you thought they might have stolen some). Perhaps you don't realize that cops risk their lives everday to protect you, and they are not paid alot for doing it either. Cops are human beings too. If you cooperate with them, they will be civil with you. And don't expect any charges to be filed against Wal Mart. I am not aware of any law against "breaking my privacy of what I purchase in the drug store".

I agree Wal-Mart is off the hook. I call them the Wal-Mart Nazis! I have never stolen anything in my life and have been detained numerous times by Wal-Mart to check my bags because they did not deactivate the alarm signaling device - especially DVD's. I have almost completely discontinued going to Nazi World and do most of my shopping at Target. As a consumer I'm really tired of bad service and unfounded accusations.

I agree bill that they do protect people for a lower cost than they should be getting, but also there are some pretty worthless cops out there that dont do what they should be doing. and some just like to piss others off by getting people in trouble for pointless things when they should be out catching more dangerous people. and the cops know that the civilians cant do anything about it cause they might get arrested or what not...but hey there ARE so decent cops out there.

Bill, I think you missed the point in what she was trying to say. This was an inconvenience for the both of them because first there was a lack of communication between the employees at the pharmacy, after waiting for the prescription obviously the first thing on her husbands mind was to get out of the store ASAP to get the medication to her so she wouldn't be in pain. Also the women who checked them out did not move the dog food over to look in the cart to see if anything was left (as I am a cashier and guest service worker it is custom to look inside the cart to see if anything was left near the back or had fallen between the child seat and the side of the cart) after he was confronted by L.P he offered to pay for the ink cartridge and I am sure he apologized as well. L.P had nothing better to do so the cops were called. While the cops were called on a baseless claim of thief they could be keeping order on city streets. And Yes Her privacy was invaded, He had a receipt ... it was clearly purchased in the pharmacy. Would you want your monthly supply of viagra inspected and questioned? Think of it in terms like that.

BILL maybe you live in small town USA Maybe you have never met an officer of the law.I will tell you the police in this area have killed and hurt numerous civilians, however the D.A always finds just cause. The D.A never let it be known what her rich friends had to go through when busted for running an illegal gambling house.I am looking forward to leaving Kansas and the crooked law enforcement. I also at one time sat in jail a week for an unknown cause. I finally was able to go in front of a judge after that time.I was then released when the judge admitted that an attorney had made a mistake.DON'T tell me they save lives and are underpaid. They are OVERPAID here ,treat others like crap ,and every year throw a fit wanting more money. While I sat in that cell,I seen that all they done was sit on their fat butts reading books or talking on the phone with their freinds. Hard work.

You aid the Ink cartrifge was forgoton? Well that being how do they know. they have to protect there items. Most COPS are good people. aand there are some bad apples as in any job working with the public.
How can u sue the Police ?
How can u Sue Walmart LnP? they did there job. Be it your husband made a mistake by forgetting the ink cartridge.
Also having your husband being a smartA$$ with police will make them less helpfull in this case.

hmmm theres something more to the story then your telling us or your husband has told you. as an exemployee of walmart I know for a fact when the alarm goes off at the exit, the people greeter checks your bags and cart. If they find something that wasn't paid for they don't accuse you of stealing they simply let you know "our cashier forgot to ring this up" The LP is not waiting at the door to catch every person the alarm goes off on. Unless they were watching him the whole time he was shopping. he must have done something to get the LP's attention while he was shopping. I think your just mad because your husband got caught trying to steal. Perhaps your husband has a habbit of stealing that you don't know about.

I would be interested in discussing this matter with you as my mother was involved in a very similar situation just recently. So far I have been in touch with the store manager and the district loss prevention manager to no avail. How did you deal with your issue? I would appreciate any adivce. Thank you.

I used to work at Wal Mart as Loss Prevention and I just wanted to say that Wal-Mart has very strict policies for their Loss Prevention Associates from the observation to the the detention of shoplifting suspects. However, no matter how badly anyone thinks the security personnel acting with the cops, they did their job. Your husband walked out of the store without paying for merchandise that he knowingly had in the cart. Mistakes happen and unfortunately the consequences can sometimes be harsh.

Your husband is not being honest with you, he is a thief, divorce him before he gets you in trouble as well. Also the fact that your husband blaimed the cashier because he "forgot" that he had something in the cart makes him sound like he is way to young to be married in the first place.

soccer gal - He knew he had the things in his cart. He only hoped no one else noticed, and that he could get away with it by claiming he "forgot about it.

He got arrested for breaking the law, specifically theft. You belittle and dishonor police officers due to your husband's dishonesty and that is so sad. You were going to a notorious pill mill which has been shut down since then and the Doctor is on his way to Federal prison soon.
How typical is this of someone who is a narcotics addict to defame the police, very!
As for spending your money elsewhere, you BETTER do that as your husband will be arrested for tresspass if he goes to Wal-Mart again. Goodbye and farewell, we won't miss you.
