QVC, Inc. Informative - Protecting Criminals

Review by Anonymous on 2004-08-26
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA -- My 90 year old mothers Check card was used by someone to order over $500.00 in merchandise from QVC,Inc. The only time the card had been used in the last 6 month was when she gave it to a Customer Service Rep at AAA Insurance co. to pay for her granddaughters Ins. I called QVC and ask for the name of the person that used the card, I had already found out the town. I wanted to tell AAA Ins. so they could catch the Customer Service Rep she gave the # to and fire her. QVC refused to give the name, saying they could not violate her privacy. This is unreal, they can't violate the crooks privacy, what about my mothers. They told me to call my local police Department and report it. Yeah, right our police department is so busy that unless there is injury in a wreck they will not even respond. They take burglary reports over the phone. $500.00 is nothing to them, they will not even take the report, let alone investigate it. I don't shop on QVC,Inc, and I never will, in fact I had never heard of it until now. Why are they protecting they criminal? DON'T SHOP WITH THIS COMPANY, BOYCOTT THEM.

This is a common practice. They have no idea if the card is stolen or not. They have no reasons to give out names unless contacted by the police. Would you like to boycott every other business too?

I understand your concern and why it would seem like they are protecting criminals but legally if this person is an customer of theirs they have to protect their privacy but what you can do is contact your local authorities and have them contact this company and they will have no choice at that time than to give the information you requested

You say that "they can't violate the crooks privacy, what about my mothers". Well, they ARE protecting your mother's privacy. They have no idea if the card is really stolen or not. They have no idea if a random person on the phone is or is not the actual cardholder. It's precisely because they WON'T violate your mother's privacy that they have to protect the privacy of ALL their customers.

If you want this resolved, you need to go through the proper channels. You should start by calling up the credit card company and reporting the card number as being stolen, You'll only be responsible for $50 of the purchase, and usually not even that (provided you report it in time).

RE: Protecting Criminals
I understand what you mean completely. Only I know the criminal. My husbands mother....yes his mother, had opened an account under his name. The very moment I found out, I called and canceled this account. This is the second time an account has been opened with QVC under his name. When I asked how I can prevent this from ever happening again, I was told there was nothing I could do. Then they proceeded to tell me that his mother can open accounts under different names but not under my husbands name and address. Of course it can be done; it was done...twice, so how can they say that? That is just an assinine statement! It does not matter that the name on the credit card does not match the name on the account, nothing matters except sales obviously.

Ripped-off, did you happen to notice the original complaint is from 2004? Most of these people haven't even visited this site for a year or more. I doubt any of them worked for QVC.
