K-Mart, Oak Ridge, TN Complaint - Pricing of Product - Martha Stewart Holiday Ribbon

Review by decorldy on 2009-12-26
OAK RIDGE, TENNESSEE -- On December 24 I went into K-Mart in Oak Ridge, TN to do some last minute shopping. I decided to take advantage of the tree trimmings and wrapping discounts. What I found was icredible. Only some of the tree trimmings and wrappings were on sale, but one did not know this until checkout but the most shocking thing was the Martha Stewart Holiday ribbon. This ribbon was marked 40% off. This was a good deal I thought and started going through the bins to pick out the 12 I wanted. What I found was the price on this ribbon had been marked out with a sharpie - the price of. 99 which was printed on the ribbon at the manufacturer and a sticker had been placed over the sharpie of 2.49. Most of the spools were done this way but I found 3 that the mark out had not occurred. I took the spools to the customer service desk expecting the clerk to say the 2.49 was an error but not the case. She called the Manager over, who I might add was a witch and should never be in that position. Her response was that was called profit! I explained that the price printed on the spools should be honored and I felt it was deceptive to mark out and put a bigger price on in order to reduce down and still be paying more that the price from the manufacturer. Again, she was very rude. When I said I would be pursuing the issue further, her respnose was - go ahead.

The three (out of 12?)you found not marked were obviously a mistake, not the other way around (9 out of 12 marked?). The K-Mart price of them was $2.49. The manager's remark about profit was unprofessional, but I have a feeling you gave as good as you got in regard to rudeness.

A business can charge any amount of money it wants for its goods. It then falls to you to decide if you want to but those products or not. I do not see Kmart as having done anything wrong here

Somehow I suspect there was a great deal more to the conversation with the Manager.

Supply and demand! They have, you want. They can charge what they want.

Just because the manufacturer SUGGESTS a price does NOT mean a store can not charge more. Dang. Talk about greed here, and it ain't the store.
