UHAUL Complaint - UHAULS TRUCKS COULD HAVE KILLED ME
COLUMBUS, OHIO -- We reserved our U-Haul on Wednesday 8/25/04 through the Columbus, One-Way to Cincinnati, Ohio. We got the 24ft, everything was set and we verified that we would have the truck available on Sunday as we had to be out on Sunday. They gave us a reference number after they got our credit card number and assured everything was a go for Sunday-HERE IS YOUR REFERENCE NUMBER AND WE WILL SEE YOU SUNDAY MORNING! We got a message on our answering machine on Friday at 6:00 pm telling us that we would get a call on Sunday advising us where to pick up the truck. We called to verify that we would have it Sunday morning and WERE TOLD AT THIS POINT-NO OTHER OPTIONS that there are NO GAURANTEES! There was a possibility that we might not have it until 4:00 pm that afternoon! After many calls and rude rude individuals with no customer service we did not get the truck until 2:30 pm. We weren't happy with that but that is ONLY where the nightmare began!!!! WE GOT THE TRUCK AND CONTINUED ON OUR ROUTE, THE BRAKES SEEMED LIKE THEY WERE ACTING FUNNY BUT I WAS SURE THAT UHAUL WOULD NOT GIVE ME A TRUCK WITH BAD BRAKES, SURELY THEY INSPECTED THESE AND WOULD NOT RISK MY LIFE OR THE LIVES OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC! WRONG WRONG WRONG! WE GOT THE TRUCK LOADED AND THE NIGHTMARE BEGAN! WE HAD STARTED OUR 2-HOUR NIGHTMARE TO CINCINNATI AND THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAL! WE THOUGHT MAYBE THE PADS WERE A LITTLE WORN, NO BIG DEAL RIGHT? WRONG, AFTER DRIVING WITH CAUTION LIGHTS AND GOING VERY SLOW THE WHOLE WAY, THE BRAKES WERE AT THE END OF THE TRIP TO THE FLOOR, WE HAD NO MONEY OR TIME LEFT, WE QUICKLY UNLOADED THE TRUCK AND TOOK IT TO IT'S DROP OFF LOCATION, WE WEREN'T SURE WHAT COULD BE WRONG BUT DIDN'T WANT TO RISK MONDAY MORNING TRAFFIC. IT WAS ABOUT 11:00PM, WE THOUGHT WE WOULD BE SAFER TAKING IT BACK IN THE EVENING! THE FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP! WOULD NOT MOVE, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD! IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ANY SPEED WE WOULD HAVE ROLLED IT, I COULD BE DEAD RIGHT NOW AND THE ONLY WAY ANYONE WOULD KNOW IS THROUGH THE HEADLINE NEWS! GOD HAD TO BE THERE FOR ME, UHAUL WAS NOT! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYONES SAFETY. I CALL AND SIT ON NEVER ENDING HOLD WITH THEM TO TELL THEM ABOUT MY NIGHTMARE AND I WAIT ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND THEN I AM TOLD IF THIS IS A COMPLAINT YOU WILL HAVE TO TELL THE DROP OFF LOCATION IN THE MORNING, THE SERVICE REP WITHOUT A SINGLE APOLOGY JUST HUNG UP!THE NEXT MORNING AFTER I FINALLY REACH SOMEONE 20 MINUTES LATER, THEY NONCHALANTLY OFFER $45.00 OFF! $45.00? I WONDER WHAT THEY ARE THINKING; THEY COULD HAVE KILLED ME OR OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE. THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT UHAUL! WE WERE NOT ONLY MET WITH TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT NO CONCERN FOR PEOPLES LIVES. SOMEONE HAS TO DO SOMETHING, THEY SHOULD BE HELD TO STRICT GUIDLINES AND MAINTENANCE CHECKS. THE REALITY IS THAT EITHER OTHERS OR I COULD BE DEAD OR SERIOUSLY INJURED RIGHT NOW! IT IS NOT AS SIMPLE AS MONEY! WHAT ARE THEY THINKING? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
