Jays Hallmark in Port Authority Complaint - Unhappy Customer
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- I purchased 2 recordable storybooks from Hallmark on December 3, 2009. I did not have time to record the books till Xmas eve. One of the books worked fine but the other did not, the audio was very low. I thought it might be the batteries but it was not. I looked at my receipt and it stated that I had 30 days to return the merchandise but at the end of the receipt it stated that there were no returns or exchanges on seasonal items. I was never told this before I purchased the items and there was no sign in the store stating so. I remember because the books (3) of them were behind the counter and I looked for a sign. I would have never purchased them. The total of the books came to $65.22 and they were Xmas presents for my granddaughter and grandson. I travel 4 hours a day to work and I can not afford to just throw away my money. I went to the store on Monday, December 28, 2009 and explained to the man behind the counter what was wrong with the book. He gave me a very hard time and then told me that I probably broke it and that he was not giving me a new book or a credit for the store. I told him that I was not a liar or a thief and would never do such a thing. He then told me the owner was not in the store and he could not do anything about it. I left very disappointed. I came back the next day and once again they told me it was my problem and they would not help me. My grandson is now out of a Xmas present. I am very upset with them. Is there anything I can do to get a new book?
