Spirit Airlines Complaint - No empathy for the elderly
I was appalled recently when we paid for a trip for my elderly Mother-in-Law to come to visit us but had to cancel the reservation because as it turns out, she is unable to travel alone, unassisted at 82 years old even though we believed that there would be some assistance to get her from point A to B as she had to change airlines.
First before the cancellation, Spirit Airlines would not even consider escorting her to get on the shuttle at FT. Lauderdale to get from one terminal to another to next airline.
So when we found out that she really needed a lot of assistance and it wasn't possible for her to go alone because her health was really worse then what we had thought but we had already booked the ticket, Spirit Airline's policy of "No Refund" would not even consider the fact that the she had doctor's order to not travel, they would not refund any portion of the ticket, and as they stated boldly "even if she had died". To me this airline is not worthy of anyone's hard earned cash, let alone any patronization. Their only recourse was a reprimand for not purchasing a "refundable" ticket which costs more and who keeps the money if not refunded - not me. I would never recommend this airline to anyone based on their policies and Customer Service, whereas the other airline - did provide a refund based on a doctor's letter, which makes sense.
