LA Fitness Informative - It's a for-profit gym, what do you all expect?
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- So many poor reviews for LA Fitness...
It's not the YMCA, these guys are in it for the money, so keep that in mind when you go in there for your "free week." They will do everything up to (and maybe including) lock the door before they let you out of the first session without purchasing a membership. Yes, they are that pushy; compare it to going to one of those time-share sales pitches.
When you're negotiating the rate, if you don't read the contract, you deserve what you get--even if it is years later. And if you don't expect them to make cancelling the membership a pain, you're naive (remember trying to cancel your AOL membership?).
The facility I go to in NW Houston is pretty nice, but it's possible it's an outlier because it's new. The equipment and locker rooms are nice, new, clean, and well-maintained, and the gym doesn't seem to get too crowded. I do wish they had cardio theater though, as the radio broadcast for the TVs is worthless. I quit bringing my radio because I was having to read the captions anyway. Anyway, the gym fills the need, but without anything more.
