Verizon Complaint - Beware!
We recently signed my mother up for one of Verizon's bundles thinking that we would do her a favor and save her some money. This bundle included the freedom essentials package. Previously, my mother was using another company, Americatel Corp(?), for her international calls. These charges showed up on her Verizon bill and she did not have to do anything other than dial the number to make her calls. When we signed up for the bundle, we were not advised that this freedom essentials package was going to take over the international calls. You can imagine our surprise when we got our first bill for $404!! Apparently, this package charges you with Verizon's ridiculous basic international rates ($5.32/MINUTE!!).
We're paying the bill because it was our fault for not researching a little more but it makes me upset that Verizon can do this. Are any other companies charging these rates for long distance?? I feel like Verizon set this up as a scheme to screw people over. Based on the few minutes of research I've done on this, plenty of people are getting caught in this scheme and Verizon has not cut anyone any slack. I'm going to write to my state attorney general to make sure he is aware of this because I don't think Verizon should be able to do this.
So let this be a warning to anyone who makes international calls and is considering Verizon for their phone service. I use Vonage and I have yet to complain regarding their rates.
