Wal-Mart (Nellis) Las Vegas, NV Complaint - Beware Exchange Policy loop holes
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- I purchased 3 clothing items as gifts for daughter-in-law during the Black Friday sale in Nov 2009 while shopping for other discounted things. After Christmas, those items were discovered to be too small in size (didn't know Miley Cyrus sizes ran small).
Jan 7th 2010, after daughter-in-law returned the clothing items to me, unused, with tags attached and still having my receipt, I attempted to "exchange" them for larger sizes. For 2 of the pieces I found the exact same clothing items in larger sizes, and decided to ask for refund on the 3rd item.
An attendant at Customer Service then proceeded to refund my money on all 3 items AND then proceeded to charge me the (off sale) higher price on the two items I had for "exchange".
When I returned to complained (to another attendant, because the original attendant wasn't present) that I was only "exchanging" sizes on the 2 items, I was first told that because the clothing items were no longer on sale I had to pay the higher price. I explained that in that case, I didn't want the items at a higher price and I requested a refund.
The attendant then checked with a higher supervisor and returned to say that I was right, their policy was that I could exchange sizes on those items straight across no matter what I originally paid for them, and therefore I would receive a further refund. But before the refund could be processed, the original attendant (that had charged me the higher price in the, so called, "exchange") returned and argued that since it was purchased on "Black Friday" (during that particular sale) I had to pay the higher price even in an exchange.
I finally told them to just refund all my money and take their Miley Cyrus stuff back.
Still miffed, I called the store again and asked for a supervisor, got "Robert" supervisor over clothing. He said that Customer Service didn't understand the sales on the Miley Cyrus items that were occurring during Black Friday, and that if I came back in with my receipt, I could purchase the items for the original price.
Thing is: I still do not feel I can comprehend (so that I can correctly govern myself in my buying decisions) the WalMart exchange policy. And I thoroughly dislike stores that do not have a consistent and posted return/exchange policy, and that does not fluctuate with each occasion or each attendant.
