Audi Informative - Air Bag Replacement - Passenger side Air Bag

Passenger side Air Bag
Review by L&M on 2010-01-08
The Air Bag light would not go off in our 2004 Audi A6. The Dealer stated the passenger side Air Bay needed to be replaced at a cost of @$900.00. Is this typical for a 2004 car with 40,000 miles and no accidents.

I had no idea that air bags cost that much. I'm just wondering if maybe it's just a sensor or something in the passenger seat ?? But I guess since you had the Audi dealer look at it I would have to assume they know what they're talking about tho. I just hope mine doesn't go out.

I certainly would get a second opinion and see if a short can't be tracked by a mechanic with know-how and desire to try and get this working without a full change out.

L&M, I have no idea what the replacement costs are for an air bag that simply needed replacing with no collision involved. I had an employee who was involved in a minor fender bender when her air bag exploded. I was shocked at the cost to replace hers. Her insurance paid in full and I wish I could remember the price. I was dumbfounded. I expect it has to do with tearing the entire dash of the car.

I'd say that for an Audi, that's getting off easy. They've long been known for enormous prices on replacement parts.
