Volvo Complaint - Don't buy a Volvo - Money pit takes on a whole new meaning - Volvo S60

Volvo S60 - Complaint
Review by tsue on 2010-01-13
We thought we had researched this car but have been sooooo disappointed in the quality in every area of the car. The gas mileage is terrible 20 miles average. The electronic ignition went out and just after that the electronic door locks! The leather cracks and splits even though we have used the proper products to keep it nice. We have had have the two front seats recovered. The boots for the gear shift and the breaks were replaced as well.

We only have 40,000 miles on the car! We will never buy another Volvo and I hope that this review will encourage others to stay far away from this car manufacturer.

I've always liked the S60, and have not had much trouble with the ones I have had in my fleet. Granted, we get rid of them @ 30K. I too am always surprised at how fuel thirsty they are (we have the 2.5L Turbos) and even if you baby it, the best I managed was 27 on a mostly highway trip. The plus side is they are great in the snow-even the FWD models. And the AWD ones are just amazing.
I don't know if I'd write them off. From what you wrote you had a couple electrical glitches-which can happen in any vehicle made nowadays, when most everything is electric. Maybe you just got a bad batch of leather on the seats, I don't know. I haven't noticed an issue with that in any of mine, with just 10K less miles than yours-and they are rentals at that. Believe me, we don't use leather conditioner.

I have a 2002 S60 2.4T and I agree with the review....they are junk.I ah to buy new wheels to get rid of the tire rub, new axles, the message boards works sometimes and is blank the rest of the time. Brake lights stay on when the car is in the garage, headlights keep burning out, left turn signal is a very fast blink, leather seats are coming un-sewed, I have replaced struts, shocks, alternater and compressor.
A friend has the same car and has had the same problems.
My 2001 GMC 2500 HD has no issues with it and it has 197,000 miles. My next car will be American made (as much as possible) They can't be any worse than Volvo and I won't have to pay $40 for powe steering fluid.
