H & R Block Complaint - Rudeness while filing Taxes - Filing Taxes

Complaint
Review by audi on 2010-01-14
WARNER ROBINS, GEORGIA -- While filing taxes at H & R Block I had the worst experience ever! The lady helping me file my taxes told me that I did not make enough to take care of me and my daughter! She also told me that DFACS would get involved if I filed with out including her father. Well we are not married so can't claim him. and I really don't believe that she has a right to tell me that DFACS will get involved if I file my taxes this year. Can anyone tell me why someone would tell me that? I manage my money just fine for me and my daughter to live comfortably! Then when I got home they call me to tell me that they forgot to get me to sign one of the papers for them to be able to process my taxes! So then I had to go back up there and when I got there they asked if I get help from the state..

I tell them yes and they were like "Well DFACS might still get involved and you might get audited this year"!

Buy turbo-tax or another computer program for your taxes. It will ask you the right questions and you don't have to deal with ignorant people. It will be cheaper for you as well.

Tax Act.com is fabulous and cheap. H & R Block, which I used once, never got me the refund doing it myself with TA has. The person commenting on a customer's personal life is unprofessional and should be reported.

Ditto with all the other comments thus far.

The agent asked if you got state funds because ALL income must be claimed. These questions are on the self tax software too.

Other than that, her comments about DCFS were uncalled for.

I've used Tax Act for several years. Has worked well so far.

LadyScot, Your statement is factually incorrect.

Stew in what way? I have sat through the HR Block tax questions for about 12 years. They always ask about income. "Do you have anymore W2s or 1099s, other income to declare? Social Security, Pension, AFDC, Widow's Pension, IRA Disbursements blah blah blah"

It is not an invasive question. We have been through having our return audited and having HR Block pay penalties on our behalf for errors. It is a frightening experience and the IRS are not nice people.

If they ask my blood type and DNA sequence I would hand it over.

Because we as tax preparers can be fined and penalized if not all documention of income whether it is taxable or not taxable is not disclosed and you did not provide more that 50 percent of the childs support. If you did not than you have no right to file head of household. These are new laws we are required to abide by this year.

krissy, don't sweat it. We Wally cashiers get blamed for everything from pricing to stoking to being out of something to the state requiring ID on beer and smokes to the rain and cold etc. It comes with the job. :)

H&R block are just idiots trying to take your money for something you can do for free. IT IS NONE of her business how you take care of your child & child welfare would get involved only if H&R Block called. Then you could sue them for making a false claim. Too many busy bodies. Skip the idiots next year, and use one of the free sites online through www.irs.gov. You probably live in Texas!

Ditto sherdy. Go to taxact.com. It's really not that hard to do your own taxes, and forgive me for assuming so, but I'm guessing your tax situation is not complicated. I have always done my own taxes and I pay the few bucks it costs me to file them through taxact.

I file long. I have two cats, which I can't claim. I have a house (deduct the interest on the mortage). I bought a new car in 2009 (deduct the sales tax this year only). I have a lot of school related deductions, both getting more education and paying for stuff in my class. TA walks me through each thing. There was one weird deduction called Make Work Pay. I think I get it. I'm still investigating it. TaxAct added it to my deductions, but then asked if I got some Railroad rebate in 2009. I didn't. Does anyone know anything about this before I send my taxes in.
