Wellmark BlueCross BlueShield (Iowa) Complaint - Wellmark BCBS Fails to Notify Customer of Late Premium Payment Then Dumps Him
DES MOINES, IOWA -- Every negative thing you hear about the health insurance fraudsters is true. Wellmark BCBS of Iowa employed fraudulent and deceptive billing techniques to terminate my COBRA health insurance policy, claiming that a premium payment was not received within their overdue billing grace period. My wife pays our bills on-line and always early, but something went wrong with our December premium transaction. The transaction failed and Wellmark did not receive payment. While we sat ignorant of the error, Wellmark waited until our time had run out before informing us of the overdue premium. On the last day of their so-called 30 day grace period, Wellmark posted a "late payment reminder". Of course, because of holidays, we did not receive the reminder until well into the new year. Their reminder was followed several days later by a notice of termination of coverage.
Of course, when we tried to address our billing problem on the phone we were stonewalled and treated very shabbily. Our explanation was dismissed out of hand and we were told that we have literally no methods of recourse or grievence.
I have reported these crooks to the Iowa Better Business Bureau and the appropriate state authorities and have every intention of initiating civil action against them.
These shysters run their health insurance business like a boiler room long-con operation.
