Tiffany Auto repair Complaint - Ripped off - install rebuilt engine in 2002 dodge truck

Review by maryp888 on 2010-01-16
TAMPA, FLORIDA -- The operator of Tiffany's took a deposit from us of $1500 to install a guaranteed, rebuilt engine. I got a receipt. After two months of excuses and the job still not being completed he begged more time and wrote a promise to return truck and all money if not done by 12/1/2009 It was not done and we still gave him more time and another 300 dollars for the last parts needed. Also have receipt for that. In first week of January we removed our truck from his property and took it elsewhere. The job was done in 48 hrs after they bought another engine. We went to meet Mike at Tiffany's on 1/8/09 to get our money back as promised. He gave us a check dated for the 12th which upon investigation at both his bank and ours is found to be worthless. I have called him daily since and he will not answer or return a call. I filed with the Better Business Bureau and will also do so with the dept of consumer affairs.

Perhaps a call to the local police will help. He apparently wrote a worthless business check. This is against the law in every state, I believe. If the the police can't help you they will most likely send you to the proper county or state agency. Your money back check was over a thousand dollars, I assume, not a good thing for "Mike" to have done.

Take that bad check to the local police and file a worthless check suit and have him arrested for check fraud. Anything over $500 is a felony. However, I think you can only file IF you try to cash the check and it bounces.
