Frigidaire Complaint - Frigidaire Microwave FMV156DCG uses poorly manufacture plastic parts
Two years ago we purchased and installed the Frigidaire Microwave FMV156DCG. After a period of time we experienced a problem with the plastic vent grill located above the door. The plastic became brittle and started breaking into chunks. I contacted Frigidaire about the problem and was told that it wasn't covered under warranty even in the warranty period. I was told that I could purchase the part for around $60 dollars. I also just received notice in the mail that my warranty period would be up very soon and Frigidaire asked if I wanted to extend my warranty. I contacted Frigidaire again and said what good would it do to extend the warranty when they wouldn't even replace a plastic part. Finally Frigidaire responded and sent me the plastic grill so I could replace it at no charge. After the experience I was still somewhat disappointed in the warranty process that the only reason they replaced the part was because I said I would wait to see what they would do before I paid more money. I ultimately didn't purchase the extended warranty. One week later I noticed that the front push pad control panel was actually moving back and forth in the lower right hand corner. Thinking that perhaps a screw was off the back I followed the Frigidaire schematic and removed the panel. To my surprise the only thing holding the touch pad in place again was another piece of plastic about 1/16 of an inch thick. It had broke too and allowed the push pad to float around. Thinking perhaps I could purchase the part to fix this I was again surprise to find that it cost $116 online. If Frigidaire continues to use cheap plastic parts I will never purchase one of their products again.
Here is the actual response from Frigidaire on the plastic Grill.
