Sears Complaint - Fraudulent appliance repair warranty
I called Sears to have an appliance repaired and they offered a repair for a set price with a one year warranty on the repair. I paid for the repair on that day over the phone. What Sears did not tell me is that the one year warranty started on that day and NOT on the day the repair was made, approximately 4 weeks later when the part came in. I wrote to their executive offices and received a message on my answering machine saying the warranty starts on the day of purchase not on the day of repair. In other words, too bad. This seems patently unfair especially when Sears did not inform me of the commencement of the warranty period when I called them initially. This practice most likely results in many consumers thinking they have a one year warranty when in fact they don't and Sears won't have to cover a warranty repair. This has to result in a windfall for Sears. I have reported this consumer fraud to the state attorney general where I reside and I hope they will do something about this.
