People finder Complaint - People Finder - Search of contact information

Review by dawn n in st. petersburg, fl on 2010-01-19
I was reviewing my credit card today and saw that I got charged $24.97 by PrivacyMatters. Luckily, my cc company has a # listed as part of the transaction.
I called Privacy Matters. Eventhough I was given the option to press 1 to have my account with PM closed and get my refund. I decided to talk to the representative instead. It was a good thing I did.
I found out that it was because I signed up for a promotional subscription to their service.
Suddenly I remember. About a week after I did a $1.95 search on People Finders site, I got a call from some lady who said she got my CELL phone # from People Finders. She was offering something like free gas card if I agree to receive some coupons. I flatly refused. She tried to push it a couple more times then stop.
I thought that was the end of it. NOPE. I got charge still.
Privacy Matters agreed to refund the money.
Not only People Finders sells useless outdated information (speaking from experience, and from reading various web posts), they also sell your contact information.
They cover their behind by have legalese that you will have to spend time to read.

FINAL WORDS. They'll (I think probably other search site like them) keep your information (b/c you use your credit card with all recent contact info) which they turn around and sell to subscribers to their site. They'll so make more money by selling your RECENT contact info to other marketers.

BTW, I think People Finder is owned/created by the same people who created Zabba.

Dispute the charge with your card issuer. You know there are other services you can use to locate lost folks right?
