Bill Me Later Complaint - Unwilling to work with customers on debt to keep account current.
Behind 3 payments on my Bill Me Later because of other financial events in my life such as community college and other household necessities, and I get collection calls from Bill Me Later constantly. They have gotten so aggressive on their collection efforts that I had to add two numbers to the blocked calls list so my house would remain at peace. (I live with my grandmother and calls after 8am wake her up.) I tried calling this evening to work out a payment plan due to my financial hardship, and was given some information to help get current, but was not able to work out a payment amount for the next month that I can afford. To top it off, my Newegg Preferred Account linked to my Bill Me Later account was reset from 10.00% Fixed back to 21.99% Fixed, and was charged a $35.00 late fee! Isn't there consumer rights for debts in California that can help protect me against people who are unwilling to work with me on a payment that is affordable to help me get caught up, or the resetting of the interest rates? I am only 30 years old, On a fixed SSI income, and fell behind 3 payments and need help catching up.
