Nissan Complaint - Very disappointed in my Xterra and the Consumer Affairs Department
I bought a brand new 2006 Nissan Xterra with 26 miles on it. After driving 4,666 miles in 4 months, the clutch burned out and was replaced under warranty and said to be faulty. Not even three years later, but a month after the three year warranty expired, the clutch burned out again with only 18,000 miles on the car. I took the car to my mechanic who looked at it and said that it was faulty with some problem with the pressure release. At that point, I called Nissan Consumer Affairs and spoke to a representative that said that I should have it towed to a Nissan Dealer and it would be investigated to see if they should pay for it. I did so almost 5 weeks ago. I had it towed to the same dealership that worked on the clutch the first time. A decision was supposed to have been reached 2 weeks ago. Since then, I have received periodic phone calls from the regional representative, Owen, at Nissan Consumer Affairs, who leaves a message or has someone leave a message simply stating for me to call him back. Every day I have called him and have left messages or have not been able to get through. I have explained to Owen's voicemail on numerous occasions that I am a teacher and possibly the best way to reach me is to leave a detailed message as to the state of the affairs or to call my school and I will have the secretary interrupt my class for me to receive the phone call. Neither has happened. I have called an alternate number twice in the past two days and stated the problems and how I have not been able to speak to a person or to get any information. In the meantime, the dealership cannot work on the car and is ready to close the ticket on it since it has been 5 weeks. Also in the meantime, I have not had a car. I have had stick shift cars/manual transmissions for the past 16 years. My Honda Civic had 100,000 miles and I never replaced the clutch. My Saab had 80,000 miles on it before someone hit me and totaled the car, but the clutch was never replaced. In addition, it is clear that I don't drive a tremendous distance since I have had the car for over 3 years and the mileage is only at 18,000 miles.
