JAS Construction Complaint - New Homes - Home Builder/Contractor

Review by relswete on 2010-01-25
GREENSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA -- JAS Built a home for a family member and it is shoddy to say the least. Other contractors, Inspectors all agree that the workmanship is horrible. Water leaks into electrical system and many other problems. The family member can no longer live in her home nor can they afford to have it re-built which is the only way experienced people say it will be fixed, the porches, windows, doors, landscaping, insulation, roofing and flashing all need done, the brick need removed house wrapped and rebricked. It has gotten so bad and despite all this JAS did put some band aids pieces of shingle to cover a leaky utility box, water proofing some brick but not with the correct stuff to water proof brick with, but refuse to repair the fairly new house they built incorrectly. This has gone on for a few years since the small repairs would last a few months to a year at a time. Insurance will not cover since they say it is definitely a builder problem. JAS has been arrogant to say the least and will not fix the mess they have created. What I wish is that they would acknowledge they goofed up big time and be right with what they have created.

To see family members in this stressful situation, and soon having to bare the cost of finding a new home which is starting to create health problems and financial problems and having a house they cannot sell either after having trusted this builder makes me mad and then makes we wonder also would they maybe come in and just do shoddy workmanship again, Even if they had responded to the many plees to correct these many problems?

Was the home built w/ a permit and did the building inspectors, etc inspect it? Is it covered under a 2-10 warranty? This should cover the building screw-ups! Your relative should have warranties and paperwork. Call in on the warranty or hire an attorney.
