Veteran's Administration Complaint - Why Can I Not Get Competent Medical Care

Review by wjbrooksbro on 2010-01-26
JOHNSON CITY, TENNESSEE -- I am a 70% service connected disabled Army veteran; I have been mistreated by the Veterans Administration Medical system for a year now. I had a PTSD episode December 2008 and checked in to the VA medical center in Johnson City emergency room for help. When I got there, Dr Hendricks said I tested positive for Oxycotene, I said I have never even seen an Oxycotene, I asked the emergency room doctor to give a urine test, of course It came up negative but they still took my pain medicine furthermore I never gave a urine sample to be tested. (I have taken pain medicine for 20 years without any problems). The director of the hospital sent an apology letter in April for the false test that took my pain medicine and said I could have it back, it is now December 2009 and I have still not received my pain medicine yet. The pain clinic doctor has never seen me and decided I do not need pain medicine. I have had 14 reconstructive surgeries since 2002, I have a very unstable right knee and arthritis in both knees, he has never seen me, and decided I do not have pain.

I was hit by a drunk driver April 2002, and was sandwiched between two cars and had both legs crushed, and in 2004 had a diabetic black out and hit the underpass on the highway crushing my legs again. I was in the hospital for pancreatitis December 2009 and they know how painful that is, still would not give pain medicine, I have requested if they would not treat me, let me find my own doctor, at first they agreed, now they want to handle it in house, they said, but even after 12 trips to the emergency room in Morristown, I cannot even get an appointment. They are not handling it. I want a doctor of my choice before it is too late, and the VA will pay for it. Can you help me find the appropriate people to help me?

[snip - no personal info please]

I have been to the patient advocate no less than 5 times with no outcome. I have asked to speak to the hospital director every time I go to the VA Medical Center with no success. I almost died last month, and I could not even get a doctor’s appointment.
